einarsdatter:

hiddlestonhotness:

When you read and get drawn in to a really great fan fiction and then it isn’t updated for SO LONG that by the time the update comes along, you have to go back and re-read the ENTIRE story to remember what’s going on. LOL!

Oops! Guilty author here. Guilty of slow…

Guilty. Omg oh so guilty. shot I’m surprised readers haven’t lynched me yet…. I love you, readers? <3 REALLYIDO.

Chapter 42 references

It’s been quite some time since I’ve had to do one of these! Hopefully the chapter wasn’t convoluted, it was a little challenging to sit down and pick up the threads of the story when I’d been away from it so long. To that end, the theme of the events in 42 may seem somewhat simplistic - but don’t be fooled.
They’re incredibly meaningful.

  • Cass doesn’t want to wake him up because he’s been incredibly busy. It’s not that she wouldn’t let him come. This is also why it is not creepy/freaky/weird/intrusive that he does show up. It’s a fine line but hopefully I made that clear.
  • There were a few quotes from chapter 7 “The Perils of Happiness”. They’re relatively significant. Keep in mind, that chapter details the last time Cass and her mother spoke with each other face to face. “
No tears, sweetheart. Not for this. Not for love.” and “
I just want you to be happy.” are both things Susan said.
  • There’ve been things that allude to Cass taking after Susan, although I’m not certain which chapter they’re in now. Because of this, Tom’s promise is almost more meaningful: Susan was driven by her own set of circumstances to suicide, and tragically no one was there who saw what was happening. Tom is making a promise, more to himself, that he wants to be that person for Cassandra, because he loves her - and he wants to be able to build a life with her.

Look up “Tom Hiddleston Casual” (I was looking for outfit inspiration) and I came across the way that he really seems to stand when he’s “at rest”. It was very peculiar to finally click onto that. But hey, better late than never! Posture referenced in DFMT chapter 42. Also, assume this is the appearance (outfit notwithstanding) that shows up there.

Another picture of the infamous jacket, but wrong undershirt in this one so if looking for a reference to DFMT Chapter 42's Tom outfit, look to the post before this one!

Tom as I generally see him in DFMT Chapter 42, “Promise Me This”. Not the Loki-hair, though. Refer to his standard red carpet look for that.

Gasp!

So, guess what’s going on? Yes! Writing! It’s actually happening! I’ve got one more class today but I’m hoping to have this chapter up within the next day or so. ;D I thank everyone for putting up with my absence and I hope I haven’t disappointed you too thoroughly.

Thank you, all. I eagerly await your response to Chapter 42: “The Moment it Mattered”.

Miracles!

Hey! Hey! Hey, guess what!

…other than the fact that I’ve moved and begun an insane university program that’s eating my soul and I’m quite possibly going crazy…

I have a chapter partly written. I’m planning on trying to complete it tomorrow night though it depends on whether or not I have something at 7AM on friday. I am seriously hoping not (normally it’s something that isn’t scheduled to start until next week) so in that event: Nap, and then more writing!
Now that I’m super-cool and in theeastern US timezone you can maybe expect an update around 3AM my time (so I suppose that’s friday morning..). If not then, then definitely by friday evening. ;D

Thank you everyone for staying with me! I can’t wait to hear what you think of the upcoming chapters. <3

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, everyone. I hope you had wonderful nights and that 2013 brings you beautiful things! In my life it heralds some fairly dramatic changes so you might not see much writing from my quarter.

Unfortunately I went on a rather unexpected vacation. I’ll return from it on Wednesday night but on Sunday I’m moving myself to a different state to continue my education. Phenomenal opportunities but it will be incredibly busy!

DFMT should, if I’ve managed to plan it right, end within a week.

The sequel may be published at a much slower rate than DFMT was. You likely won’t get an update a day, more like one a week.
However, the story which will seem somewhat incomplete at the cessation of Dream For Me Tonight was meant to continue, and it shall. No worries on that count!

Happy New Year, everyone. I hope you’re as excited for it as I am! Anticipate updates starting either early thursday morning or thursday evening at the normal time again.

Merry Christmas. No, really. May not update a chapter, but after this: who needs one?
Not at all related to DFMT Chapter 41. I also have no idea where this picture is from, or even if it’s photoshopped. But hey. Worth sharing.

Merry Christmas, everyone

I don’t think I’m going to have time to complete the chapter I’ve been working on for christmas day, although I may surprise everyone yet by hiding from family events and finishing it then. In the event I don’t get something posted: I apologize, and I also wish everyone a very safe, and happy, holiday.

I love you all! Thank you so much for sticking with me through all of this!

Tom Hiddleston, unknown photoshoot.

Generally how I view him as having dressed for the momentous “meeting the father” in Chapter 40. Elegant, but not overdressed.

Chapter 40 Guide

Chapter 40 features quite a bit of information that may not make sense to many people. Some of it is also really “dumbed down” for a classroom format. All of the notes explaining the hows and whys are here, although if you’d like further information or explanation don’t hesitate to ask!

I’m going to break these up into sections, to make it a little more readable. The first is about Tom’s schedule. The second large chunk is about US classrooms or historical content. The third relates to Tom and Cass.

  • Tom was filming “Only Lovers Left Alive” from June-August 2012. I’ve adjusted the schedule a little bit to make it a little earlier. Part of it was filmed in Detroit which is only a few hours south of where Cass lives. Thus, they’re in Michigan together in May.

The following information all deals with classrooms, education or historical content.

  • I’m not entirely up to date on the procedure for procuring a substitute teacher in a class, but in the past I’ve had teachers from the same school sub for one another if one was free for some reason. Effectively, Cassandra is teaching at the school where she taught previously, though a different classroom thus her lack of familiarity with the students.
  • The class is noted as being junior & senior students because in many states in the US, history/social studies classes are only required for two years. This varies. I don’t know Michigan’s requirement. So any course after the first two (mandated: Global studies or whatever they’re calling it, and US History/Government) is one you’ve selected. For the sake of this chapter I was imagining it being a class like Contemporary American History or something.
  • 2012: Election year. By May, the Republican Nomination was between Ron Paul & Mitt Romney. Santorum & Gingrich had dropped out by that point.
  • Most (if not all) seniors in US classrooms are eligible to vote in election years, if they register. You have to be 18 to vote, and the way the US year block is worked out in most areas, to be in a certain grade you need to have your birthday before september 1st. IE: If you’re a first grader, you must turn 6 before September 1. So you’ll have a class of 6/7 year olds.
  • One of the most dogged issues that plagued Romney’s presidental campaign was a 2008 piece he co-wrote and published. “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” was the title. The car industry is THE industry in many parts of Michigan, thus the relevance to the students in this classroom.
  • I’m not even going to try to cover the political response to the US fiscal crisis. Basically: people are crazy. No, really. In 2008 congress was a democrat majority although after the 2010 elections, the House of Representatives had a majority of republicans because people felt the government hadn’t done enough during the recession. It’s more complex than that, but you get the gist.
  • Rust Belt: A strip of the US known for their involvement in the auto industry. Michigan and Ohio come to mind, but other states are also involved.
  • Global depressions: The US has had two major ones people will talk about (1930’s and the one from 2008) but other countries have experienced them as well. Germany’s in the 1930’s was actually related to the US’s (because it was a global economic catastrophe) but much of it also had to do with the punitive measures inflicted on them after WWI. I’m not an economics major. Don’t hate me for this oversimplified explanation!
  • National Socialist German Workers’ party: Otherwise known as the Nazi party.
  • People liked to blame Germany for causing WWI but it was actually a much more complex issue than that. A series of alliances made it so that there were effectively two “sides”, and once Serbia & Austria came into conflict with the Archduke’s assassination, different sides backed up different people and MORE people backed up THOSE people..and then most of the world was entangled in it.
  • Ultra-nationalism is a phrase I use in this chapter. Most spellchecks won’t pass it, but it is a concept that’s recognized in historical classrooms. Nationalism is a form of patriotism, and it typically places your country above all others. Ultra-nationalism takes this to extremes. It’s generally very prohibitive as far as global cooperation goes, and it had a lot to do with the conflicts in countries leading up to WWI.

Now for things NOT relating to history!

  • This is the first time Tom’s really seen Cassandra “in her element”, so to speak. This is her passion. She went into teaching for a reason. It’s an entirely different side of her that he’s never really been able to view until now.
  • Students recognize Tom because The Avengers came out on May 4 in world-wide release. This is set a week after that. Others likely recognize him from other things, but The Avengers really catapulted his street-level recognition.
  • Joe for those of you who don’t remember him in his earlier appearances, isn’t the most sympathetic of characters. He’s very hide-bound and typically supports the more illustrious careers. Management, law, military, medicine. He’s pretty standard that way. It’s never been really spelled out but one of his daughters is in art and the other is in education. He doesn’t really approve. It stands to reason that he’s also not going to be terribly fond of the idea of acting as a career.
  • It’s worth noting that Tom is uniquely equipped to deal with this, considering it sounds as if he had this issue with his own father. That will show up more in 41, though.

Alright, I’ll cut myself off here! I could go into more detail about the political or historical segments but you should get the gist of it from this. If you’re still confused or want further information about it, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me!
